Sat Sri Akal Satinder Sartaaj Ji,
I am a 19 year old university student and I listen to your songs during breaks in between my classes. When I went to India a few years ago, I heard your song “Sai” and have been hooked on your music ever since. The thing that I really appreciate about your lyrics is that they have a deep meaning. Though I don’t understand some words in your songs, I still feel a deep connection to your music.
A few days ago, I heard your song “Kudio” on Youtube and felt so much emotion that I began to cry. After the song was over I played it again two more times and cried again both of those two times. I felt a personal connection to the little girl that showed up towards the end of the video. Even though the Sikh religion stresses equality, in some families boys are valued more than girls are. Some of my friends told me that their parents and/or grandparents were depressed when they were born just because they were girls. These people claim that they are Sikhs and go to the Gurdwara to pray but fail to follow the teachings of their own religion. They treat their daughters unfairly while adoring their sons. This makes me very sad. Hopefully your song will put some sense in to the people who disrespect the opposite gender.
Ustaad Ji, What inspired you to write the song “Kudio”? Do You Have children of your own? What advice can you give to a young university student such as myself?
I love you sir. God bless you and thank you for sharing your beautiful music with the world.
